The GOP tax bill is another obtrusive case of Republican robbery of the poor and middle classes. Trump once said that he loves the uneducated because the only people gullible enough to buy what he’s selling are conservative dropouts.
The president claims that the tax bill is a massive win for the American people, yet the underlying intention of the measure is to give the wealthiest Americans the most significant breaks including the Trump family.
There is also language buried deep in the bill designed to dismantle the Johnson Amendment, which allows for the erosion of the separation of church and state.
Democratic lawmakers just stepped up to the plate to ensure their people are on board. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) knows what’s at stake. She told reporters this week:
“Our unity internally is good for our own maneuvering. And while the health bill was life and death, this is really everything on the line.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is hard at work back home exposing the measure’s limited ability to deduct state and local taxes – an important factor in states with high taxes including New York and New Jersey.
Schumer believes a “push-pull” effect will thwart Republican efforts. He stated, “To get it passed in the House, they have to move in one direction,” before adding, “But to get the same bill passed in the Senate, they have to move in another direction.”
